Brief History of Lawrenceville Road United Methodist Church
Lawrenceville Road United Methodist Church was chartered on March 18, 1962, with twenty-one members. The property at that time included 6.7 acres, a ranch style bungalow and an unfinished adjacent "chicken house". Reverend Leland Bagwell was appointed as pastor and came only on weekends until his graduation from West Georgia in June.
During the early days the house was used as a Sanctuary, Sunday School, and a parsonage. In the Spring of 1963 the chicken house was converted to a Sunday School Building. On March 16, 1965, plans began on the Fellowship Hall and ground braking services were held on May 29, 1966. The opening services were held on February 26, 1967. In 1968, a parsonage was purchased on Hebron Hills Drive. In the Spring of 1968, construction began on the Educational Building. Consecration Services were held on February 23, 1969. In 1980, planning began for the new Sanctuary. Ground breaking services were held on November 14, 1982. Consecration services were held on September 18, 1983.
On March 18, 2012 LRUMC celebrated it's 50th Anniversary.
