We welcome Rev. Gail Thompson to Lawrenceville Road United Methodist Church. Our prayers are with her
and our congregation as she embarks on her new appointment. Read on to get to know a little about her.
Reverend E. Gail Thompson is an Elder in the North Georgia Conference. Gail comes to
Lawrenceville Road from her appointment as the Associate Pastor of Evangelism at Mountain Park UMC in
Stone Mountain, Ga. She has previously served appointments at Suwanee FUMC as the Senior Pastor and
McKendree and East Point First United Methodist Churches, as Associate Pastor. In the Conference, she
serves as a Mentor to those preparing for the ministry and is a member of the Christian Unity and
Interreligious Concerns Committee. In the Atlanta-Decatur-Oxford District, she served as Vice-Chair of the
Connectional Ministry Team, serving the same position in Atlanta-College Park District. When she was in
the Atlanta Emory District, Gail served on the District Committee on Finance and on the District Training
Event Committee.
Gail’s family consists of her 4-legged, furry little Tzhi-Su, Angel, and many, many Christian friends.
She also is the niece of Dr. Gordon Thompson, a beloved retired pastor in the N. Georgia Conference and
has a number of cousins in Walton County and Metro Atlanta. Gail’s Mother, Sara Thompson, recently
passed away after many years of companionship, during which she was Gail’s roommate and dearest friend.
Gail was a “late-bloomer” in her “ordained” ministry career, entering school again in 1996, graduating
Magna Cum Laude from Candler School of Theology of Emory University in May of 1998. Prior to
entering the ministry, Gail was the Senior Administrative Officer for Chemical Financial Services
Corporation for 13 years, formerly working in pharmaceutical sales and as field coordinator for area units of
the American Cancer Society. Gail is a life-long Methodist with numerous family members in the ministry
of the UMC and she was an active member of the laity leadership at Mt. Bethel UMC in Marietta.
Gail is actively involved in the spiritual leadership of the Walk to Emmaus community, with a
particular love and passion for the Chrysalis Youth Division of WTE. Gail has a strong calling for ministry
with women and young people, as well as being a Stephen Leader and big believer in small group ministry.
Gail says her favorite word is JOY, because it comes from the Lord and no circumstance can determine it.
Her current favorite pasttime, when not doing all the above, is reading novels (“non-religious”). In a former
life, with much better physical shape, she enjoyed snow skiing and was a “downhill” racer and still hopes to
hit the slopes again.
A Personal Word: I will look forward to serving with all the members of Lawrenceville Road UMC
and to come to know each of you personally. Thank you for your prayers during this time of transition.
