We welcome Reverend Kathy McFarland to Lawrenceville Road United Methodist Church. Our prayers are with her
and our congregation as she embarks on her new appointment. Read on to get to know a little about her:
Please let me say that we are very excited about our new appointment to the church. My
husband’s name is Len (short for Leonard). He works downtown Atlanta for the EDS division of Hewlett
Packard. His client is AT&T. Len spent the earlier part of his life in North Carolina, then Alabama, and
then Atlanta. He has two children. Scott is now 31 and he is married to Sarah. They currently reside in
New York City, although we hope to have them back to Atlanta next year. Anna is 29 and lives in
Virginia Highlands in Atlanta. Anna currently works in Alpharetta while working on her MBA at
Georgia State. My daughter, Chelsea goes to college at Georgia College and State University and is
beginning her 3rd year towards a Mass Media degree. She will be spending the summer in Italy
participating in a study abroad program. We are very blessed by of all their successes and are prone to be
as proud as peacocks. (Don’t get me started!) We have a small Maltese named Daisy that is also an
important family member that I would not leave out.
I hale from Tennessee originally. At the age of 22 I moved to Ohio for 2 years, then spent 16
years in Florida, and finally 14 years in Georgia. I worked for the Bell System for 22 years. My title when
I left the company was Senior Technical Manager in Corporate Communications. Although my call to
ministry actually began when I was 14 years old, it was not realized until much later in life. In between,
you could say I drifted a bit. However, that call began its renewal over twenty years ago. Chelsea and I
moved to Lawrenceville, Georgia in 1995 and we began attending McKendree UMC. In January 1998,
Len and I were married and we began our new life together. In the year 2000, I left Bellsouth and began
my journey into the ministry, never once suspecting that I would be appointed Associate Pastor to my
home church. But that is exactly what happened! So while I have been at McKendree for fourteen years,
only the last seven was as pastor.
So now, we turn to a new chapter in our lives. We love all that we have seen and heard so far
about Lawrenceville Road. What a beautiful church! What a warm and caring congregation! I look
forward to getting to know each and everyone of you, of hearing your stories and your hopes and dreams
for this church. I know that God has a wonderful plan for us as a body of Christ together. As I begin my
new journey here among you, I covet your prayers for me and my family. Please pray that the Lord will
bind our hearts together as one with yours, and that the Lord will give me wisdom, guidance and
empowerment to do all He desires for us all. I look forward to meeting and serving with you all.
